Healthy Schools ~ Healthy Kids
is a pilot program implemented by several community partners, including West
Central District Health Department, North Platte Public Schools, Great Plains
Regional Medical Center, Salvation Army and other local agencies and organizations.
Like many other communities
across the US, North Platte has seen an increase in overweight/obesity rates
and a decrease in physical activity/exercise.
These community partners are working together to
improve school policies,
programs, and services, and reduce childhood obesity rates.
We invite North Platte students
to participate in the Healthy Schools ~ Healthy Kids Backpack Program. This program provides in need children with
nutritious, child-friendly, easy-to-prepare foods on a weekly basis throughout
the school year. While our first
priority is to provide supplemental nutrition to students who qualify for the
free/reduced lunch program, no student in need will be turned away and all
students are welcome to participate in the program.
Items in the backpack are not
individualized, should your child have allergies to any product in the
backpack, it is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to remove that item. If you have questions or would like to learn
more about the program, please call West Central District Health Department at
696-1201 (ext. 256).
