| | Other Information: | | Healthy Schools~Healthy Kids is a pilot program implemented by several
community partners, including, West Central District Health Department,
North Platte Public Schools, Great Plains Regional Medical Center, and
other local agencies and organizations.
Like many other
communities across the US, North Platte has seen an increase in
overweight/obesity rates and a decrease in physical activity/ exercise.
These community partners are working together to improve school
policies, programs, and services, and reduce childhood obesity rates.
We
invite North Platte students to participate in the Healthy Schools ~
Healthy Kids Summer Backpack Program. This program provides at-risk
children with nutritious, child-friendly, easy-to-prepare foods on a
weekly basis throughout the summer. While our first priority is to
provide supplemental nutrition to students who qualify for the
free/reduced lunch program, no student will be turned away and all
students are welcome to participate in the program.
Students will
be provided with a backpack of food items on a weekly basis during the
summer months. Backpacks will be distributed from Lincoln and Buffalo
Elementary Schools.
Backpacks can be picked up every Friday from
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at either Buffalo Elementary or Lincoln
Elementary in the lunch room. The backpacks include 2 breakfasts, 2
lunches, 2 snacks, and milk.
